This is a list of the 10 best West Country holiday hot spots by of course "House Prices"! What else is there that anyone seemingly takes any notice of these days!??!
AREA PRICE
Salcombe £491,307
Rock £458,495
Sandbanks £446,025
St Mawes £413,280
Dartmouth £408,729
Newton Ferrers £401,933
Isle of Wedmore £391,982
The Chew Valley £378,211
Marlborough £365,715
Cranborne Chase £357,513
This tells a great deal about Salcombe and it's transformation from sleepy fishing village/family holiday town into "Chiswick on Sea", no hang on that's not wealthy enough, these days it's more like "Kensington on Sea"....you only have to visit at Easter and count the Quba jackets; you see entire families decked out in them, which means for a family of 4 they are wearing £1500 worth of jackets!!
...and don't get me started on the that Attic place, what is it Amelia's or Alicia's or something...last summer (on a rainy day) the shop was so busy they had to lock the doors to stop people coming in!!! All they sell is stuff that is more expensive than the same stuff in most shops in most cities or even in Kingsbridge for that matter.
Still, things change and if it keeps Salcombe going in the light of a declining fishing industry, visiting yachts and boat building then so be it. You may hear locals grumbling about "Grockles" and sometimes with good reason, but let's face it Salcombe could be quite a run down town by now if it wasn't the huge influx of cash we have seen over the past 15 years...
But, and I will cover this topic at a later date the Developers need to be stopped, we can't let Salcombe become a mass of half million pound flats! It appears the Salcombe town council have begun to realise this and are beginning to refuse applications to demolish houses to build flats...AT LAST!

SHDC make the decisions on planning.Salcombe Town Council only make recommendations to SHDC and are toothless really.
Some of the planning decisions are so surprising that there must be some backhanders going on between developers and councillors??
