I have just found out that not only is The Crofts still a very possible site for the new social housing being pushed on us (but not needed), but Malborough is also about to have a new batch of houses built which will only be sold to residents of Salcombe and Malborough!!
Am I missing something or are there hoards of people roaming around Salcombe with nowhere to live? Are there caravans lining Batson creek and filing up the park and ride? Are the camp sites full all year round? Are they being built to help house the all people needed to fill the thousands of job vacancies sitting empty and paying £30k a year?
This is all madness, where is it going to end, will it take the destruction of the Salcombe that we know and love before these ridiculous decisions are seen for what they really are??

Salcombe council has two Council members that "represent" the towns views at district level. One is John Carter who has seen the Croft site for what it is and that is a total disaster, the other Councilor is a numpty called Paul Coulson who for whatever reason thinks the the Crofts is the way to go!
I personally feel he has some self serving interest in the site or a huge chip on his shoulder with regards Salcombe or it's people!!
maybe instead of building a new batch of houses they should reclaim some of the second homes and sell them to local families
I completely disagree with the site proposal they came up with but the need for housing for LOCAL people is very much there the reason people dont see that is because all too quietly and without fuss the younger locals get forced out of the town due to house pricing and lack of rented alternatives, having more locals back in Salcombe, maybe just get the number back up to 5,000 would sort out a lot of issues like overpricing of goods higher quality service dues to jobs being full time and not seasonal, it would be a win win for everyone
